What We Do

The Kamloops Film Society is the umbrella organization that runs three main events. The KFS Film Series, The KFS Film Festival, and the KISS Festival.

The Film Series are biweekly screenings of Canadian, independent and International films. We run a Film Series from September to November.

The Kamloops Film Festival is a two week celebration of excellence in filmmaking. Screenings take place in March at the Paramount theatre, including opening and closing galas, workshops, special guests and other events.

The Kamloops Independent Short Shorts (KISS) Festival is a showcase of local filmmakers in the short film category. Held in May, we screen 5min or shorter films in any genre from filmmakers in the Kamloops region.

40 Years of KFS

The Kamloops Film Society is excited to be embarking on our 40th year of presenting high-quality films to audiences in Kamloops and region. Beginning with 16 mm screenings at the then newly established Cariboo College in 1972, the Society has grown over the years to be a major presence in the Kamloops arts community. In addition to the regular fall, winter and spring series, the Society sponsors the respected and very popular Kamloops Film Festival each March and the Kamloops Independent Short Short Film Competition each May. The KFS mandate is to show the best independent and art-house Canadian and foreign cinema offerings, particularly those that mainstream theatres would not normally bring to Kamloops audiences. Working with the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the KFS has access to newly-released films that, over the years, have entertained, informed and challenged audiences. Our fall film line-up is no exception and I know that our members will be extremely pleased at our selections.

The Society Board of Directors is planning special events to mark the Society’s 40th anniversary in conjunction with our 17th annual Kamloops Film Festival in March 2013.

The first event is allowing you to pick two films which will be played in January and February.

You have voted and the the two films will be: Amelie On February 21st and The Kite Runner January 17th
